Tours are relaxed and welcoming. You’ll explore the classroom, see the environment in action when possible, and meet members of our teaching team. We share how the day flows, how children engage in learning, and how we partner with families. Tours usually take about 15 to 20 minutes, and children are welcome to attend.

AKIDEMY welcomes preschool-aged children who are three years old by September 1.
For each school year, we work within specific birthdate ranges to help ensure children are developmentally ready for a full day preschool experience.
Our program is typically best suited for older three and four-year-old children, as the rhythm of the day, length of program, and learning style are designed with this age group in mind.
We do also enroll younger three-year-olds, however there are a smaller number of spaces available for children between 3 and 3½. Availability can vary by location and year, so we’re always happy to talk together about what might be the best fit for your child.
Communication is ongoing and intentional. Families regularly receive classroom updates through Seesaw, along with in-person conversations at drop-off and pick-up.
You can expect:
• Frequent classroom and project updates
• Individual moments shared when meaningful
• Direct communication if something important arises
Our goal is to keep you informed and connected, while allowing educators to remain fully present with the children throughout the day.
Our educators hold the highest level of provincial certification, with many having degrees in early childhood education. They bring a strong understanding of child development and are deeply committed to ongoing professional growth. Reflection, collaboration, and continued learning are an important part of our culture. You can find more information about our Hillhurst team HERE,(https://www.akidemy.ca/hillhurst-preschool) and our West Springs team HERE.(https://www.akidemy.ca/west-springs)
We see communication as a partnership. Staying connected with families is an important part of what we do each day.
Through Seesaw, we share glimpses into classroom life and your child’s learning journey. You may see photos, reflections, and moments that highlight not just what children are doing, but how they are thinking, collaborating, and growing.
Our educators are available at drop-off and pick-up for daily check-ins. These conversations allow us to share small moments, answer questions, and stay connected. If a deeper conversation would be helpful, we are always happy to schedule time to talk further.
We also schedule parent-teacher meetings in the fall and spring. These meetings provide dedicated time to reflect on your child’s development, celebrate growth, and discuss next steps together.
Our goal is for families to feel informed, supported, and truly connected to their child’s experience at AKIDEMY.
Our days have a gentle rhythm that balances structure and flexibility. There is time to settle in, time to explore deeply, and space for connection throughout the day.
A typical day includes:
• Morning arrival and open exploration
• Hands-on project work and small-group learning
• Group meeting to share ideas and plan the day
• Morning snack
• Outdoor play and physical movement
• Lunch as a shared, social experience
• Rest or quiet time
• Afternoon project work, art, and inquiry
• Afternoon snack
• A second outdoor play time before dismissal
Throughout the day, children are encouraged to explore materials, dig into projects, ask questions, solve problems together, and develop their thinking through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
Our learning is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. In everyday practice, this means:
• Children’s ideas and questions shape much of what unfolds
• Educators observe carefully and respond with intention
• The environment invites exploration and experimentation
• Learning is documented so thinking becomes visible
• Relationships guide everything we do
Learning grows through meaningful play, thoughtful teaching, and genuine engagement.
That is completely okay. Many families tour to gather information and begin imagining what preschool might look like for their child. You are always welcome to add your name to our waitlist.(https://www.akidemy.ca/akidemy) There is no cost or commitment to do so, and it simply keeps you connected as you consider your next steps.
At AKIDEMY, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our educators take time to truly know each child; their interests, their temperament, and the ways they communicate. Consistency and connection allow children to feel secure, confident, and ready to learn. We believe strong relationships are the foundation for meaningful growth.
We don’t separate academics from play. Literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, and communication develop naturally through projects, exploration, and everyday experiences. Instead of worksheets or formal lessons, we focus on building strong foundations through curiosity, hands-on learning, and building strong foundations through exploration and inquiry.
Professional growth is an ongoing part of our work. Our educators regularly engage in reflection, collaboration, and continued professional development. Through mentoring practicum students and staying connected to current research and best practices, we ensure our program remains thoughtful, current, and responsive to children’s needs.
The AKIDEMY Way describes how our values show up in daily life. It reflects our belief in respectful relationships, thoughtfully designed environments, and giving children time to explore ideas deeply. It guides how we plan our spaces, support learning, and partner with families. It is less about following a formula and more about how we choose to be with children each day.
Our classrooms are designed with children in mind. Materials are accessible, spaces are calm and inviting, and the environment encourages children to explore both independently and together.
You’ll notice:
• Natural materials that invite curiosity
• Open-ended resources that can be used in many ways
• Thoughtfully organized spaces
• Areas for quiet work and shared projects
The environment plays an active role in learning and supports children in making choices and staying engaged with their ideas.
